Mr. Carolin has been a Venture Partner at SCP Partners since 2004 and has over 25 years experience in working in technology related businesses and making and managing technology oriented investments. At SCP he identifies attractive investment opportunities and actively works with portfolio companies in the areas of strategy development, operating management, financial strategy and intellectual property.
Prior to joining SCP, Mr. Carolin co-founded CFM Technologies, a global manufacturer of semiconductor process equipment, and he led the company as CEO for 10 years during which time the company went public on NASDAQ and achieved a market capitalization in excess of $300m. He subsequently sold CFM to Mattson Technology (NASDAQ: MTSN) at a substantial premium over its then current market value. While he was at CFM, the company developed a substantial patent portfolio and successfully litigated its core patent against two major competitors to obtain settlements in excess of $100m.
Prior to CFM, Roger worked in the defense and aerospace industries in the development of high-speed digital computing systems and custom integrated circuits at Honeywell and General Electric. He is currently a director of Amkor Technology (NASDAQ: AMKR), the second largest provider of outsourced semiconductor packaging and test services worldwide, Innovative Solutions & Support (NASDAQ: ISSC), and he serves as a director of several private companies including FourthWall Media and R&D Altanova.
Mr. Carolin received his B.S. in electrical engineering, summa cum laude, from Duke University and his MBA as a George F. Baker Scholar from Harvard Business School. He is a former board member of the Greater Philadelphia Venture Group, and he currently serves on the boards of The Clery Center and Big Picture Schools Philadelphia.
